Emily Rees is a voice actor currently living in the Los Angeles area. After graduating cum laude from Barnard College in New York City with a BA in Theatre, Emily began living the artist’s life in Brooklyn, NY. While there, she performed in several NY Fringe Festival shows and Off-Off Broadway plays, and attended the Atlantic Theatre Company Acting School.
Much to her surprise, Emily found her gift for voice over while working the phones as an executive assistant. It was her smooth “professional phone voice” that prompted her first breakthrough as a working voice over actor – a national SoftSoap commercial. Emily then quickly booked voice over spots for Mattel, Lifetime, and several cartoon featured roles, culminating in a memorable turn as the voice of the onboard computer in Pokemon 2000.
Following a move to Los Angeles, Emily began voice training at VoiceTrax West under the tutelage of Keri Tombazian. With Keri’s guidance, Emily learned the importance of developing her “ear” as well as her voice, in order to better understand a client’s direction and respond to notes on the spot.
Emily also took classes in animation voice over with the esteemed Ginny McSwain, who pioneered several classic Nickelodeon cartoons. After many nights spent in class, working on commercial copy, narration, promo, and dialogue, Emily recorded her voice over demo and hit the pavement.
Her next stop, though, was marriage and a move back to the East Coast. After settling in the NYC area once again, Emily continues to work on her craft. Since 2006, she’s been working locally in the areas of commercials, gaming, narration and spokesperson voice over.
